In the past, people moved mainly in search of food, of better health conditions or for a job. Nowadays, a significant amount of migration is caused by the desire to achieve a particular lifestyle. In other words, Studies show that migrants seek a different environment by returning to different holiday destinations as new residents. The purpose of this research is to analyse the actual situation in San Marcos Sierras (SMS) regarding this kind of migration. Furthermore, this paper tends to analyse the impact generated on the location by this phenomenon. This research is based on primary data analyses based on interviews and participant observation in San Marcos Sierras community, exploring the characteristics of this kind of migrants and secondary data include government census reports, sectoral reports and other scientific studies. Additionally, this research attend to define the population structure changes that has been occurring since this phenomenon begun. In conclution, this paper looks forward to consider tourism as a way to ensure social and economic development.

In the past, people moved mainly in search of food, of better health conditions or for a job. Nowadays, a
significant amount of migration is caused by the desire to achieve a particular lifestyle. In other words, Studies
show that migrants seek a different environment by returning to different holiday destinations as new residents.
