Amenity migration is a new term for a phenomenon that has been occurring since the birth of human history.<br/>In the past, people moved mainly in search of food, of better health conditions or for a job. Nowadays, a<br/>significant amount of migration is caused by the desire to achieve a particular lifestyle. In other words, Studies<br/>show that migrants seek a different environment by returning to different holiday destinations as new residents.<br/>The purpose of this research is to analyse the actual situation in San Marcos Sierras (SMS) regarding this kind<br/>of migration. Furthermore, this paper tends to analyse the impact generated on the location by this<br/>phenomenon. This research is based on primary data analyses based on interviews and participant observation<br/>in San Marcos Sierras community, exploring the characteristics of this kind of migrants and secondary data<br/>include government census reports, sectoral reports and other scientific studies. Additionally, this research<br/>attend to define the population structure changes that has been occurring since this phenomenon begun. In<br/>conclution, this paper looks forward to consider tourism as a way to ensure social and economic development. |
